Head of Finance / VP


Location: Newmarket


Our Services/Technology client is a successful private company with a forward-thinking, and strong executive team. They are seeking a VP/Head of Finance to join their strong finance team.



  • Overall responsibility for effective operation of finance and accounting functions
  • Manage and lead a team of 10
  • Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements and reports, including KPI’s, variance analysis, and recommendations for savings
  • Implement and monitor financial controls, ensuring effective safeguarding of company assets
  • Prepare and coordinate annual operating and capital budgets
  • Coordinate annual external financial statement review engagement, including preparation of year-end schedules and working papers
  • Liaise with legal, audit & tax advisors and direct their activity
  • Ongoing financial analysis and review of operations to reduce costs and maximize profitability (GP%, inventory level, travel, communication costs, etc.);
  • Review, approve and sign company cheques
  • Negotiate property and equipment leases
  • Monitor and manage foreign exchange risk and effect hedging transactions to mitigate risk, as appropriate
  • Establish and monitor customer credit policies; complete contract reviews, and supervise collection of delinquent receivables, as required
  • Investigate and pursue various grants, subsidies, and tax incentives
  • Manage all legal contracts including customer and supplier agreements
  • Implement, and monitor compliance with transfer pricing policies as required
  • Investigate and pursue corporate incentives with local government officials
  • Manage IT and ERP functions within 12-18 months



  • A recognized accounting designation
  • 8+ years progressive experience in accounting and controlling costs in a service or manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years of experience in a management leadership role.
  • Must demonstrate experience in reducing operating costs
  • Must be able to execute and deliver results on time
  • Must enjoy being hands-on in a flat entrepreneurial organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Computer proficiency (Must operate Excel at a high level)
  • Able to effectively communicate with senior management on all aspects of financial statements and reports
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Must thrive in a fast paced environment
